About Dueck Defense
Dueck Defense, Inc.’s ISO-certified products are a direct derivation of years of professional firearms research and testing by Marine Corps. veteran, nationally ranked 3-Gun Shooter and IPSC Grand Master, Barry Dueck. It was Barry’s own diagnostic persona and inclination for the ultimate second set of rifle sights that lead to the creation of Dueck Defense, Inc.’s innovative suite of tactical firearms sights and accessories.
Barry was an outdoorsman and avid hunter from a very young age, quickly developing a fascination for firearms architecture. He spent six active years in the Marine Corp and eight in the reserve. He shot on the Marine Corp Reserve shooting team where he sharpened his shooting accuracy and skills before he was released from active duty and enlisted to join the team at Surefire, pioneers in the commercialization of tactical lights and laser sights for firearms.
Barry’s expertise as a competitive shooter and veteran spearheaded the exploration of refining existing rifle suppressors. In 2002, Barry created the Surefire Suppressors division which developed a top-of-the-line product that is now the standard with which all suppressors are judged. But, his ingenuity and passion for innovation didn’t stop there. While continuing to develop products at SureFire, Barry began building products after hours in his home shop where he engineered the first Dueck Defense, Inc. Rapid Transition Sight™.
His goal was to design the ultimate transition sight for help with his competition shooting. Barry’s design was originally constructed to enable him to have iron sights plus a magnified optic on his rifle at the same time for his own use in competition, but when his military friends, customers and 3-Gun Shooter fans started buzzing about and requesting these sights, Barry and his wife and business manager, Michelle Dueck, decided it was time to start manufacturing the Dueck Defense, Inc. Rapid Transition Sight™. And, in 2010, Dueck Defense, Inc.’s e-commerce site was officially launched. Soon after the Duecks began commercial production, a YouTube video of Barry using the cutting-edge Dueck Defense, Inc. sights went viral, solidifying their position in the firearms accessories industry.
The expeditious expansion and swift success of Dueck Defense, Inc. cannot solely be attributed to Barry’s innovative design, however; the company was launched as a family corporation with the support and instinctual business mind of Michelle Dueck, Barry’s wife. She is the daughter of a veteran, lifetime NRA member who has become a valuable part of Dueck Defense’s success, having her own industry experience being skilled in catering to the needs of high-end clients and customers throughout her career.
They both admit they didn’t build the Dueck Defense corporation because they wanted a business, though; they built it because “no one else builds exactly what I needed, and I knew I could build it the best,” Barry Dueck said.
Dueck Defense, Inc. develops tactical and competitive weaponry sight systems for competitive, law enforcement and military tactical shooters. The innovative, ISO-certified products, including the Rapid Transition Sight™ and newly released Rapid Latch, provide the quickest transition possible from optical to offset iron sights while reducing reload time and shooter efficiency.
Dueck Defense, Inc. Rapid Transition Sights™ are the ultimate backup sight, designed to sharpen firearms performance while seamlessly mounting onto the rail of a standard rifle. The low-profile designs are easily mounted to the upper picatinny rail of an M4/M16 but at an offset of 45 degrees to avoid conflicting with the primary sight. These state-of-the-art sights are optimized for shooting close-up targets or as a backup sight and are available in right-hand or left-hand applications. A: The Dueck Defense, Inc. Rapid Transition Sights™ were designed to be both quick and efficient whether in a 3-Gun shooting match or a tactical L Enforcement or Military application. The standard M4/M16 iron sight design is used due to the wide familiarity with the sight picture, which results in a shorter learning curve and better efficiency when in use. The RTS™ design allows for extremely quick transition.
A: Yes. The Dueck Defense, Inc. the RTS™ design allows for use ambidextrously, but we do offer both right and left-handed versions for your convenience. The RTS™ can be mounted on either side of the upper picatinny rail. The RTS™ front sight is identical when mounted on the left or right side of your rifle. The rear functions perfectly mounted left or right, even though it’s flipped around. We have many customers running them in the left-hand set up.
Some customers running the RTS™ left-handed prefer the aperture flipped so it sits the same way as in the right hand set up. Flipping the aperture around is an easy modification if you are mechanically inclined; however, Dueck Defense, Inc. does provide service to those who request to have the aperture pre-set upon ordering. Just note the requested alteration in the “comments” when ordering online.
A: Initially the sights were used for close range (less than 50 yards), but at the 2011 Blue Ridge 3-Gun Competition, Barry Dueck found that he was able to shoot tighter groups at 200 yards with the RTS™ than with a red dot. He won the Heavy Metal division using the red dot for close targets and the RTS™ for the 100+ yards targets. The RTS™ is very versatile.
A: Yes. All it takes is a flat-head screwdriver (or a small coin). See our <a title=”Rapid Transition Sight Installation” href=”http://dueckdefense.com/rapid-transition-sight-installation/”>INSTALLATION GUIDE</a>.
A: You will have a good feel for the sights in just a few minutes practice.

A: Yes. The front sight needs to be mounted on the same plane as the rear parallel to those bore. If you want the sight mounted to the gas block, PRI mounts make an SE plane gas block which retails for $65.
A: There is no special torque needed for the RTS™ screws. Torqueing with 15-inch pounds would be perfect, but just tighten the screw until the sight base has no movement with the gun.
